Sustainable Places 2017

Location: Teesside University, Middlesbrough UK
Date: 28th-30th June 2017
Summary: The development of sustainable solutions for energy-efficient buildings properly integrated in their neighbourhood and their corresponding construction processes requires major innovations in the design tools, construction methods and management practices. Latest advances in modelling and optimisation techniques should enable improvements in buildings design and control in order to facilitate decision-making before the construction stage. To improve the reliability of modelling tools for the construction sector, the main challenge is to:
- Ensure their interoperability and connectivity with other information systems used during the building life-cycle taking into account various domains and different scales;
- Promote the use of standards (e.g. ISO IFC, City GML, gbXML).

Technologies developed in Design4Energy and project approaches have been presented in the common workshop with eeEmbedded, Streamer and Holisteec project, intensive discussions with other project also benefits the further thinking for Design4Energy project.
On the other hand, a paper titled “A data conversion framework to support energy simulation” was published in the Sustainable Places 2017

The University of Salford, together with University of Aveiro and UTAD Portugal were invited to this workshop. The automation platform on discussion is a well-established commercial platform with a large range of implementations domains from home automation to motorway management. This workshop was particularly relevant for the D4E project as it presented a good practice example in automation communication platforms, which was reflected on D5.1.

EeB-PPP Impact workshop

Organizer: EU
Location: Brussels, BE
Date:1-2 April 2014
Summary: The 4th workshop on the Impact of the Public-Private Partnership "Energy-Efficient Buildings" (EeB PPP) was organised by the European Commission with the support of the Energy Efficient Buildings Association (E2BA). All EeB projects originating from calls between 2010 and 2013 were invited to a 2-day event to assess the impact of the PPP initiative and to strengthen the cooperation links within the community.
This workshop focussed on increasing cross-project clustering. The projects were grouped thematically, rather than by the call topics themselves. Joint presentations were prepared and delivered in three parallel sessions, where discussions were encouraged to further identify common synergies and ideas. The second day was organised as a plenary session, with keynote speakers from the EC and the industry, and where success stories were presented, followed by a panel of EC and private sector representatives talking about their views on the Energy-efficient Buildings PPP.
A joint presentation was prepared by DESIGN4ENERGY, STREAMER, HOLISTEEC, and EE-EMBEDDED, and presented by the Scientific Coordinator of Design4Energy Terrence Fernando and the project coordinator of STREAMER Rizal Sebastian. Expected impacts from these 4 projects, project highlights, cross-cutting issues, Synergies and benefits of clustering are presented in the session Session 3: Integration and demonstration of technologies for EeB. Solintel and Terrence exploited this chance to communicate with other project partner and collecte usefull ideas from other projects.
